Adam Scott’s taking a well-deserved break from his hometown tournaments this year – a rare miss for one of Australia’s most loyal golf stars.
The former Masters champ has been a fixture at Australian events for most of his career. He’s shown up year after year for the Australian PGA, Australian Open, and (when it was still running) the Australian Masters. One particularly busy season, he even squeezed in the World Cup of Golf down under.

In fact, since he turned pro, Scott’s only skipped his homeland tournaments twice – in 2008 and 2018. And that’s not counting the COVID years when travel was basically impossible.
But 2023 has been different.
"Throughout my career I have always done my best to come back to Australia to compete in at least some of our great local events," Scott told Australian Golf Digest. "This year will be an exception, as I need to spend some quality time with my family and get some rest."
It’s easy to see why he’s ready for a break. The Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship marks his 23rd tournament this season – and that’s just the playing part. Behind the scenes, he’s been pulling double duty as a PGA Tour board member, helping navigate some pretty complicated talks with Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund.
The good news? All that hard work’s paying off. At 44, Scott’s currently ranked 19th in the world – his highest position in more than four years.
Instead of heading home, he’ll be spending the off-season at his place in Switzerland, catching his breath after what’s been one intense year.
