Adam Svensson Cut Attempt Interrupted at Farmers Insurance Open

Adam Svensson Cut Attempt Interrupted at Farmers Insurance Open image

The timing couldn’t have been worse for Adam Svensson at the Farmers Insurance Open. As he started his backstroke for a crucial birdie putt on his final hole, the airhorn blasted to suspend play.

Svensson was putting on the par-5 ninth at the North Course, needing to make birdie to reach the projected cut line of 1 over. The interruption clearly affected his stroke – he missed the putt and tapped in for par, leaving him at 2 over.

High winds in San Diego had already caused havoc throughout the day. Play was suspended for 86 minutes earlier, and while the second round wasn’t completed, that projected cut of 1 over seems pretty locked in.

While Svensson’s timing was brutal, Mac Meissner showed remarkable composure in similar conditions. The 25-year-old faced his own make-or-break birdie putt on the North Course’s ninth. After backing off once because of the wind, he stepped up and rolled it in beautifully to finish right on the cut number at 1 over.

It’s the harsh reality of tournament golf – with about 150 players spread across two courses, that horn has to blow sometime. Today, it just happened to come at the absolute worst moment for one player, while another managed to sneak inside the cut line just in time.
