Adrien Saddier captured his first DP World Tour title Sunday at the Italian Open, delivering a clutch back-nine performance in what was remarkably his 200th career start on tour.
The Frenchman fired a 4-under 66 at Argentario Golf Club on the Tuscan coast, finishing two strokes clear of countryman Martin Couvra. It’s a hugely consequential victory for Saddier, who had been knocking on the door throughout his career without breaking through until now.
Couvra, the third-round leader who posted a final-round 69, appeared to be cruising toward victory until Saddier caught fire. The champion’s surge included five birdies over a seven-hole stretch on the back nine, completely flipping the tournament’s momentum.
The win comes with significant perks beyond the trophy. Both Saddier and Couvra secured spots in next month’s Open Championship at Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland, adding major championship opportunities to their schedules.
Scotland’s Calum Hill and England’s Dan Bradbury shared third place, finishing four shots behind Saddier’s winning total.
