Augusta National Women’s Amateur Final Round Preview: Talley Leads by One
The stage is set for a thrilling Saturday finale at the 2026 Augusta National Women’s Amateur, with 17-year-old Asterisk Talley holding a one-shot lead after two dominant rounds at Champions Retreat. The final round moves to the iconic Augusta National Golf Club, where perfect weather awaits as 32 elite amateurs compete for one of women’s golf’s most prestigious amateur titles.
Leaderboard Heading into Augusta National
1. -11 Asterisk Talley (USA)
T-2. -10 Meja Örtengren (SWE), Maria Jose Marin (COL)
T-4. -6 Andrea Revuelta (ESP), Avery Weed (USA)
The final pairing of Talley and Örtengren tees off at 11 a.m. ET, with Marin and Revuelta in the penultimate group at 10:50 a.m.
Talley Looks to Finish What She Started
Asterisk Talley has been nothing short of spectacular through two rounds, posting bogey-free scores of 66 and 67 at Champions Retreat. This isn’t her first ANWA rodeo, either. The Stanford commit finished runner-up last year and has placed in the top 10 in both her previous appearances.
What makes Talley particularly dangerous is her comfort level at Augusta National. She fired a final-round 68 there in 2025 and a 70 in her debut appearance. That course knowledge, combined with the momentum of winning her last three junior tournaments, gives her a formidable edge.
But the one-shot lead over Örtengren and Marin leaves little room for error. Both challengers have shown they can go low, sitting just one back at 10 under.
The Augusta Challenge
The unique format of this championship creates a fascinating dynamic for the final round. After playing Champions Retreat for the first 36 holes, competitors had a practice round Friday at Augusta National before today’s finale on the Masters course.
This venue shift presents a significant challenge, especially for the 15 first-timers in the field who’ve never competed on these hallowed grounds. Among them is 15-year-old Yujie Liu from Beijing, the youngest player to make the cut.
Eight of the world’s top 10 amateurs advanced to the final round, ensuring a high-caliber battle on one of golf’s most revered courses.
Caddie Strategies
The caddie choice at Augusta National can be crucial, and our leaders have taken different approaches. Talley was originally planning to have Miles Russell, the top-ranked boys junior player, on her bag, but his qualification for a Korn Ferry Tour event forced a change. She’s now working with family friend Ryan Zak.
Örtengren has kept it in the family, with her older brother Alexander handling the looping duties. Meanwhile, Marin has opted for local knowledge, choosing an Augusta National caddie to navigate the course’s notorious greens.
Massive Rewards Await the Champion
Beyond joining the exclusive club of ANWA champions, this year’s winner receives an impressive array of exemptions (provided she remains amateur):
- Invitations to the next five Augusta National Women’s Amateurs
- Spots in all five women’s major championships: U.S. Women’s Open, AIG Women’s Open, Chevron Championship, and Evian Championship
- Entry into USGA, R&A and PGA of America amateur championships for one year

Tournament History
The Augusta National Women’s Amateur, first announced by Chairman Fred Ridley during the 2018 Masters, has quickly become one of amateur golf’s premier events. Created “to inspire greater interest and participation in the women’s game,” this marks the seventh edition of the championship.
The format brings 72 international amateurs together for 54 holes of stroke play, with only the top 32 and ties advancing to the final round at Augusta National. Any tie for the championship will be settled by sudden-death playoff.
