Brooks Koepka shares the lead at the French Open after firing a 6-under 65 on Saturday, highlighted by five consecutive birdies on the back nine. The five-time major champion sits tied with Min Woo Lee at 11-under 202, one shot ahead of their closest challengers.
Koepka’s strong performance comes at a perfect time. He’s looking for his first win since capturing a LIV Golf event at the Greenbrier in West Virginia back in August 2024.
“I feel like my game has been trending in the right direction,” Koepka said. “It’s the results haven’t been there. I feel a lot closer. I’m pleased with the work I’ve put in over the last few months, and nothing has shown, so hopefully got a chance to win tomorrow.”
This marks Koepka’s third straight week on the European Tour, where he’s struggled recently with missed cuts at both the Irish Open and BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth. His major championship performances have also been disappointing this year, missing the cut in three of the four majors.
Koepka credited his low round at Golf de Saint-Nom-La-Bretèche to improved putting. He carded eight birdies during his round before finishing with a bogey on the par-3 18th after missing a 6-foot par putt.
Lee, who shot a 68 on Saturday, brings his own winning momentum. The Australian captured the Houston Open earlier this year for his first PGA Tour victory, though he failed to make a deep run in the FedExCup playoffs.
Just one shot behind the leaders is a trio that includes American Michael Kim, who posted a 66. Italy’s Guido Migliozzi (66) and England’s Marcus Armitage (71) round out the group at 10-under.
