Bryson DeChambeau has withdrawn from the final round of LIV Golf Mexico City, citing wrist discomfort he didn’t want to risk aggravating further.

DeChambeau, who was attempting to become the first player to win three consecutive LIV Golf tournaments, struggled early at Chapultepec Golf Club. He was already 16 shots behind leader Jon Rahm when he decided to pull out.

“I experienced some discomfort in my wrist during yesterday’s round and have decided to withdraw from the the final round of LIV Golf Mexico City to prevent further injury,” DeChambeau explained in a social media post. “Not how I wanted this week to go.”

The timing is particularly unfortunate for DeChambeau, who’s coming off back-to-back LIV victories but now faces a health setback. He indicated he’ll undergo evaluation and hopes to recover in time for LIV Golf Virginia on May 7-10 — just a week before the PGA Championship.

This continues a tough stretch for the long-hitting American, who also missed the cut at the Masters last week after a disastrous finish. He needed two shots to escape a bunker on his final hole, resulting in a triple bogey that sent him packing from Augusta.

Meanwhile, Rahm took a two-shot lead into Sunday’s final round at Chapultepec. The tournament has unfolded against a backdrop of uncertainty surrounding the Saudi-funded league’s financial stability. CEO Scott O’Neil recently addressed these concerns in a staff memo, assuring employees that LIV has secured funding through the end of the year — a direct response to speculation about the circuit’s financial future.

Despite these questions, LIV Golf announced Sunday that it will return to Chapultepec next year, signaling some confidence in the league’s continuity.
