Daniel Berger isn’t sweating the pressure at the RSM Classic, even though his PGA Tour future hangs in the balance this weekend.
The 31-year-old fired a spectacular 7-under 63 on Saturday at Sea Island’s Seaside Course, jumping into a tie for third. It’s exactly the kind of performance he needs right now, sitting at No. 127 in FedExCup points – just outside the cutoff for keeping his Tour card next year.

But Berger’s been here before. Way up here, actually.
Before a brutal back injury sidelined him for 19 months, he was one of golf’s rising stars – a four-time PGA Tour winner, Ryder Cup player, and ranked among the world’s top 12 players.
“When I play even 1/10th of what I’m capable of, I’m at a different level than some of the other guys I’m competing against,” Berger said. It might sound bold, but his track record backs it up.
The road back hasn’t been easy. A bulging disc and deep bone sensitivity kept him away from competitive golf until this January. And there was plenty of rust to shake off – he missed 12 of his first 21 cuts this year with just one top-20 finish.
But things are looking up. He’s made six straight cuts now, including a solo seventh at the Sanderson Farms Championship this fall.
“It’s not ideal to be in this position,” Berger admits. “But it’s just challenging to take that amount of time off and expect to come back and be exactly where you were before.”
The golf world he returned to looks pretty different. The Tour’s landscape has shifted dramatically during his absence, forcing him to play unfamiliar events at new venues.
He’s giving himself 12 months to get back to his best. And he’s staying remarkably calm about it all.
“I’ve been really positive the whole year about it,” Berger said. “Just control what I can control and that’s it.”
With the way he’s playing this week, that might be more than enough.
