Tulsa’s head football coach Tre Lamb is making waves off the gridiron. The 35-year-old shot a 3-over 75 at Forest Ridge in Broken Arrow on Thursday to qualify for the Oklahoma State Amateur.
Lamb, who won’t be coaching Tulsa’s men’s golf team when it returns next year, showed he’s got game of his own. He cruised through the front nine with an even-par 36 before hitting a rough patch with a bogey-double bogey sequence. But he bounced back nicely with his second birdie of the day at the par-4 15th.
It’s an impressive showing from Lamb, who was hired in December after leading Gardner-Webb to its first Big South title in almost two decades. He’s clearly bringing that winning mentality to all his pursuits in Oklahoma.
The Oklahoma State Amateur is set for July 21-24 at Cedar Ridge Country Club, also in Broken Arrow. The format features 18 holes of stroke play followed by a 32-player match-play bracket. Lamb will be testing his skills against some of the state’s best amateur golfers while preparing for his first season leading the Golden Hurricane football program.
