A rising European golf pro is facing a two-month ban after getting caught betting on tournaments.
Marco Penge, the 26-year-old English golfer, won’t be teeing up on the DP World Tour until mid-February. The tour’s officials found he’d been placing bets on multiple events, though they confirmed he never bet on himself or during tournaments he was playing in.
That’s still a big no-no in professional golf.
The punishment could’ve been worse, but Penge came clean right away and worked with investigators. He’ll have to pay a $2,500 fine on top of the suspension, which kicked in December 13.
It’s been a roller-coaster year for the young pro. Currently ranked 414th in the world, Penge struggled through most of 2023, missing the cut in 19 of his 28 tournaments.
But there was one bright spot.
During the Genesis Championship, Penge faced the most pressure-packed moment of his career – a 5-foot par putt that would help him keep his tour card for 2025.
"I was s—ing myself, to be fair," he admitted afterward.
He made the putt.
That clutch moment helped him finish 110th in the Race to Dubai standings – just enough to keep his playing privileges for next season.
Penge, who last competed at the Australian Open in November, hasn’t commented publicly about the suspension yet.
