Justin Thomas has made a notable switch in his footwear game. The typically traditional golfer has been sporting FootJoy’s new HyperFlex shoes since last fall’s Zozo Championship.

It’s quite a departure for Thomas, who’s built his career wearing classic golf shoes. The HyperFlex, which FootJoy officially unveiled at this week’s PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando, caught his attention for good reason.

Thomas wasn’t just an early adopter – he helped shape the shoe’s development alongside pros Corey Conners and Ben An. His version is actually a prototype specifically engineered for his swing mechanics.

“I’ve worn a classic, structured shoe for pretty much my entire career – Classics, Icon, Premiere, etc. – but I had to make a switch when I tried this HyperFlex,” Thomas said. “This shoe is perfect, super comfortable and flexible in the right areas, but also gives me all the support I need to make a strong, confident move on the ball.”

The technology packed into these shoes is impressive. They feature a StratoFoam midsole for comfort, while the TruFit System balances flexibility with locked-in support. The OptiFlex outsole uses LP Pulsar cleats and includes a PowerPlate that helps channel energy into the ground for maximum swing speed.

Dan Buonomo, FJ’s footwear product manager, explains their approach: “We wanted to ensure that Hyperflex represented the pinnacle expression in athletic golf performance. Our focus remains on the discerning golfer and understanding what their needs are from a styling, comfort and golf specific performance perspective.”

Golfers can get their hands on the standard HyperFlex starting March 4 for $180. If you’re looking for the carbon version, that’ll be available in April for $225.
