Fred Biondi’s golf journey has been a whirlwind these past few months.
The former NCAA individual champion at Florida lost his Korn Ferry Tour status last year and has been grinding through Q-Schools on two tours. He barely advanced to second stage of PGA Tour Q-School, needing a closing 66 to keep his hopes alive. His DP World Tour quest was even more dramatic—he got into final stage as an alternate, receiving the call after landing back in the U.S. Biondi immediately flew back to Spain where he secured his DPWT card right on the number.
After missing the cut at the Australian PGA last week, Biondi faces a scheduling decision. His DPWT status likely won’t get him into another event until the Mauritius Open later this month. Instead, he’s focusing on PGA Tour Q-School’s second stage in Dothan, Alabama, hoping to advance to final stage, which wraps up just before Mauritius begins.
Biondi isn’t alone in his quest. Several notable players are competing across five second-stage sites from Tuesday through Friday. The fields feature a mix of former PGA Tour players, accomplished amateurs, and journeymen all chasing the same dream.
Final stage is set for December 12-15 at TPC Sawgrass’ Dye’s Valley Course and Sawgrass Country Club in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. The stakes are enormous—the top five finishers will earn coveted PGA Tour cards.
