Golf legend Gary Player has found love again at 89, proving it’s never too late for romance.
The nine-time major champion couldn’t hide his joy while sharing the news at the PNC Championship about his new girlfriend, 83-year-old Susan Waterfall from New York.

"I said I wanted to live until 100. Now if I live to 91, I’ll be happy," Player said with a laugh. It’s a touching new chapter for Player, whose wife Vivienne passed away in 2021 after 64 years of marriage.
Their meet-cute story sounds like something from a movie. After two failed attempts by friends to set them up, they finally met on a putting green at an exclusive Miami golf club.
"I’m on the putting green and this lady comes up and says, ‘I’m Susan Waterfall. Everyone has been trying to introduce us,’" Player recalled. He immediately put his arm around her and asked her to dinner.
They share a love for golf, fishing, working out, reading, and opera. Player, ever the charmer, even jokes about their financial independence: "She’s very rich. I said, ‘Listen, Susan, I don’t need your money. I’m also rich. But if you die before me, you can leave me a little.’"
Meanwhile, Nelly Korda is wrapping up her incredible year with some unusual holiday plans – dog sledding in the mountains. The LPGA star, who dominated 2023 with seven victories, is keeping things cautious though: "I skied as a kid, but I do not ski now. I’m already fragile enough."
The much-hyped Crypto.com Showdown between PGA Tour and LIV Golf stars turned out to be a ratings disappointment, drawing just 625,000 viewers. Even golf legend Fred Couples missed the start, only tuning in at the fifth hole.
In other news, the PGA Tour’s chief operating officer Ron Price announced his retirement after serving under three commissioners and briefly co-leading the Tour during Jay Monahan’s health leave.
The holiday season brought good news for charity, with the BMW Championship raising a record $10.2 million for the Evans Scholars Foundation. The Wells Fargo Championship also contributed $5.9 million to various causes.
An impressive stat worth noting: Ten of the 20 pros playing in this year’s PNC Championship have been ranked World No. 1 at some point in their careers.
Korda wrapped up the news with some wisdom about her approach to 2024: "I always look at it as a clean slate and I’m hungry for more."
