Genesis Invitational Moves to Torrey Pines Due to LA Wildfires

The Genesis Invitational is moving to Torrey Pines’ South Course next month, shifting from its traditional home at Riviera Country Club due to the Los Angeles wildfires. It’s a significant change for one of the PGA Tour’s signature $20 million events, set for Feb. 13-16.

What makes this especially interesting is that Torrey Pines will now host two Tour events in just four weeks – the Farmers Insurance Open that’s happening now, and the Genesis. They’ll only use the South Course for the Genesis, which makes sense given its championship pedigree.

Tournament host Tiger Woods should feel right at home at Torrey. He’s won there eight times, including his legendary 2008 U.S. Open victory on basically one leg. Woods hasn’t teed it up at Torrey since 2020, but he’s expected to play in this limited-field event.

The Tour’s making sure to keep the LA connection strong, with plans coming soon for wildfire relief initiatives. As Woods put it:

“While Riviera remains the home of the Genesis Invitational, we look forward to playing on another championship-caliber golf course this year and using the tournament to support those affected by the fires in the Los Angeles area.”

Torrey’s South Course, one of the toughest tests in golf, seems like a natural fit for this elite event. It’s got the length, the challenge, and that Pacific coastline backdrop that makes for compelling TV. The fact that its a public course hosting such a prestigious tournament just adds to the appeal.
