Jim Nantz just added a piece of golf history to his garage: Scottie Scheffler’s trusty 2012 GMC Yukon XL.
The veteran broadcaster secured the SUV with a $50,000 winning bid at a Houston fundraising gala last October. It’s now parked at his Pebble Beach home, complete with Scheffler’s 2022 Masters parking decal and two autographs from the two-time green jacket winner.
“I figure just driving this SUV to the golf course should lower my handicap by at least five shots,” Nantz wrote in a text message.

The story behind the vehicle runs deeper than just its famous previous owner. Scott Scheffler, Scottie’s father, bought it at Master Buick GMC while the family was attending the 2012 Masters after their old car gave out. Scottie drove it until last year when his son Bennett was born, putting about 190,000 miles on the odometer.
The auction proceeds benefit Triumph Over Kid Cancer (TOKC), a non-profit with a touching connection to Scheffler. The organization was co-founded by James Ragan, Scheffler’s childhood friend who passed away from osteosarcoma in 2014 at just 20 years old. Scheffler had dedicated his 2013 U.S. Junior Amateur victory to Ragan, who played golf at Rice University.
Nantz, who’d also met Ragan, believes he “could’ve been the President of the United States.”
The idea to auction the SUV came from Scott Scheffler, with proceeds supporting pediatric cancer research at M.D. Anderson Cancer Hospital, Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston, and the Mary Crowley Institute in Dallas. Scottie continues supporting TOKC through Scottie’s Heroes, providing golf clubs to children battling cancer.
“He finally got it,” Scheffler told Golfweek. “It was sitting at our golf course for a while. But, yeah, it’s fun. Both of us got together to help a great cause and he got an extra car out of it.”
