A bizarre lie couldn’t stop Cooper Dossey from making one of the most unusual birdies you’ll ever see at The Ocean Club Golf Course in the Bahamas.
The 26-year-old from Austin, Texas found himself in a head-scratching situation during Sunday’s opening round of the Korn Ferry Tour season. His tee shot on the par-4 14th landed perfectly – if you consider balancing on an upside-down piece of turf perfect.

“Never had this happen before,” Dossey said with a laugh. “One of my better birdies!”
He’d just made his first birdie of the day on the previous hole. But this one would be special.
The Rules of Golf were clear: play it as it lies. And that’s exactly what he did.
Not only did Dossey manage to birdie the hole from that awkward position, but he went on to card two more birdies in a bogey-free round of 4-under 66.
It’s a particularly sweet start for Dossey, who barely missed keeping his full tour status last season. He finished 76th in points – just one spot shy of the cutoff.
He wasn’t even supposed to be here this week. Originally an alternate, Dossey got his chance when the PGA Tour expanded the field to 144 players and a few others withdrew.
While his 66 left him six shots behind leader John VanDerLaan’s opening 60, Dossey’s creative shot-making definitely earned him some attention on day one.
