Lexi Thompson’s taking a brief break from her LPGA semi-retirement. She’s joining the field at next week’s Founders Cup in Bradenton, Florida.
Thompson, who stepped back from full-time LPGA competition after last season, earned her spot through her 50th-place finish on the 2023 CME points list. While she’s no longer playing a full schedule, she’s keeping her word about making select appearances on tour.
The South Florida native won’t be the only familiar face making a special appearance. Brittany Lincicome, who’s also stepped away from full-time competition, received a sponsor’s invite. It’s a natural fit for the two-time major champion who calls the Bradenton area home.

The Founders Cup itself is going through some changes. After losing Cognizant as its sponsor, the tournament’s moved from its traditional May slot in New Jersey to February in Florida. It’s taking over the calendar spot previously held by the Drive On Championship at Bradenton Country Club.
There’s some interesting history at play here. Nelly Korda won the Drive On at this same Bradenton course earlier this year, while Rose Zhang claimed the last Founders Cup title. Zhang will be the official defending champion when play begins next week.
