Maria Jose Marin stormed from one shot back to win the Augusta National Women’s Amateur by four strokes, posting the lowest score in tournament history.
The 19-year-old Arkansas junior fired a 4-under 68 in Saturday’s final round at Augusta National, finishing at 14 under for the tournament. She’s the first Colombian to win at the historic venue.
Marin was the only player in the field to shoot in the 60s all three rounds. Her consistency proved crucial as overnight leader Asterisk Talley’s bogey-free tournament unraveled dramatically at Amen Corner.
Talley, a 17-year-old Stanford commit making her third appearance, had built a seemingly comfortable lead with three birdies on the front nine. But disaster struck at the par-3 12th, where she recorded a quadruple bogey that effectively ended her chances.
“It means the world to me,” Marin said after her victory.
What made Marin’s approach different was her decision to use an Augusta National caddie – something her fellow contenders didn’t do. Last year, her father Jose carried her bag, but he stepped aside this time, recognizing she needed someone with deeper course knowledge.
It’s been a steady climb for Marin. This was her fourth ANWA appearance after finishing T-14 in 2023, T-30 in 2024, and missing the cut in 2025. She’s found her stride recently, becoming the third NCAA individual champion from Arkansas.
Marin joins elite company as the third NCAA champion to win at Augusta, alongside Jennifer Kupcho (2019) and Rose Zhang (2023).
Stanford sophomore Andrea Revuelta finished second at 10 under after matching Marin’s final-round 68. The Spaniard carded six birdies on the day, including one at the same 12th hole that derailed Talley’s round.
Korea’s Oh Soomin took solo third at 9 under, posting the only bogey-free round at Augusta National with a 4-under 68.
Talley, who entered the day with so much promise, never recovered from her troubles at the 12th. She added two birdies, a bogey and a double bogey to finish with a 3-over 75, dropping into a tie for fourth at 8 under.
