Maverick McNealy and Keith Mitchell have been elected co-chairmen of the PGA Tour’s Player Advisory Council and will join the policy board next year.
McNealy topped the voting for PAC co-chair with Mitchell edging out Rickie Fowler for the second position. McNealy’s term on the board will run four years while Mitchell will serve three years. They’ll replace outgoing player directors Peter Malnati and Webb Simpson.
The timing couldn’t be more significant. McNealy and Mitchell will join Tiger Woods, Camilo Villegas, Adam Scott and Patrick Cantlay as player directors during what’s shaping up to be a transformative period for the Tour. They’ll help navigate the circuit’s shift to a for-profit model, the integration of private equity investment, and the ongoing – and often complicated – negotiations with Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, which owns LIV Golf.
It’s worth noting that both McNealy and Mitchell already serve on the business affairs PAC subcommittee, giving them valuable experience as they prepare to take on these expanded leadership roles.
