Julien Guerrier’s having quite a run in South Africa, grabbing the lead at the Nedbank Golf Challenge after a tough day of battling the wind.

The French golfer shot an impressive 4-under 68 on Friday, showing the same grit that helped him win his first European tour title just last month.

That October victory was pretty special – it took Guerrier nine playoff holes to finally grab his first win after 230 tournaments trying.

Max Homa’s day was going great until it wasn’t. The defending champ was cruising with a two-shot lead, but then disaster struck with back-to-back double bogeys on 16 and 17.

“It’s a privilege to score under par in tough conditions like that,” Guerrier said after his round. “It was difficult to stay patient.”

The leaderboard’s getting interesting. Another Frenchman, Romain Langasque, is just one shot behind, tied with local favorite Ockie Strydom.

Those swirling winds at the Gary Player Golf and Country Club made scoring really tough, which makes Guerrier’s performance even more impressive.
