Max Homa’s title defense at the Farmers Insurance Open came to an early end as he withdrew during his second round at Torrey Pines.
The defending champion was struggling mightily before pulling out with three holes left to play. He’d opened with a disappointing 5-over 77 on the South Course Wednesday and things weren’t getting any better Thursday – he’d made the turn in 40 on the North Course and sat at 9 over for the tournament when play was suspended due to high winds.
While the Tour didn’t officially specify why Homa withdrew, Golf Channel’s broadcast team reported he wasn’t feeling well. That’s been a common theme this week, with several players already withdrawing due to illness.

It’s quite a different story from last year, when Homa captured his sixth PGA Tour victory here. This time around, he was well outside the cutline when he decided to call it quits. The early exit marks just his second missed cut in his last 12 starts dating back to last season.
The tournament itself faced challenges Thursday, with play being halted as strong winds whipped across both Torrey Pines courses. The Tour announced Homa’s withdrawal via social media shortly after the suspension of play.
