Rory McIlroy is skipping the Memorial Tournament for the first time in eight years. Jack Nicklaus’ signature event runs May 29-June 1 at Muirfield Village in Dublin, Ohio.
The decision makes sense for McIlroy’s schedule management. Playing the Memorial would have meant four straight tournaments for the Masters champion, as he’s expected to tee it up at the Canadian Open, U.S. Open and Travelers Championship in the following weeks.
World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler will be at Jack’s Place to defend his title. The Memorial marks the seventh of eight signature events on Tour this season, with the Travelers Championship rounding out that elite series.
Nicklaus, the tournament host, will welcome a field of 72 players. The final field will be set after the Charles Schwab Challenge wraps up. The initial entry list as of Friday’s deadline includes:
