Becky Morgan, Corina Kelepouris, and Maria McBride share the lead at 4-under heading into the final round of the U.S. Senior Women’s Open at San Diego Country Club.
Morgan, making her tournament debut after turning 50 last September, birdied the 18th hole Saturday to salvage an even-par 73. The Welsh player has experience on both the LPGA and Ladies European Tour circuits.
Kelepouris, a teaching professional from Canada, and Sweden’s McBride each posted 72s to join Morgan atop the leaderboard at 215 (-4). McBride, like Morgan, competed on both the LPGA and European tours during her career.
Only two other players remain under par through 54 holes. Liselotte Neumann and Ashli Bunch both shot 74s to sit at 1-under, three shots off the pace.
Juli Inkster carded a solid 72 to reach 1-over for the championship. She’s tied with 2023 champion Trish Johnson (73) and defending champion Leta Lindley (74).
One of the day’s most impressive performances came from 72-year-old Barb Moxness, the oldest competitor in the field. She broke her age for the second time this week with a 71, putting her in a tie for ninth at 2-over.
First-round leader Annika Sorenstam couldn’t recapture her early magic, posting a 75 to fall to 4-over for the tournament.
