Patrick Reed just did something incredible – he shot a 59 at the Hong Kong Open, becoming only the second player ever to break 60 in Asian Tour history.
And here’s the crazy part: his practice session before the round was terrible.

“I looked at my caddie, and he goes, ‘Hey, a warmup is a warmup – let’s go out and just play golf,'” Reed said after his round. “‘Some of your best rounds have come from a poor warmup.'”
Turns out, his caddie was spot on.
Reed was absolutely perfect off the tee, hitting every single fairway. Even more impressive? He hit every green in regulation on the par-70 Hong Kong Golf Club course.
The former Masters champion finished strong, making birdies on his final four holes to reach that magical number of 59 – a score that’s only been achieved once before on the Asian Tour.
He’s now sitting pretty at 18-under for the tournament, three shots ahead of Rashid Khan and Nitithorn Thippong.
It’s been a while since Reed’s last win – he hasn’t lifted a trophy since the 2021 Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines. This could be his chance to end that drought.
There is one small catch though. The Asian Tour says the round won’t count officially in the record books because players were allowed to use preferred lies during play.
Reed’s been keeping busy since the LIV Golf season wrapped up in September, bouncing between the DP World Tour and now the Asian Tour, where he’ll finish out his year with a three-week stretch of tournaments.
Interestingly, the only other sub-60 round on the Asian Tour this year came from John Catlin – who just happened to be playing alongside Reed when he did it in Macau.
