Patrick Reed ended his LIV Golf drought Sunday, winning the Dallas event on the first playoff hole after squandering a three-shot lead with a shaky final round. Reed drained a clutch 15-foot birdie putt to claim his first LIV title since joining the Saudi-funded circuit in 2022.

It wasn’t pretty. Reed stumbled to a 3-over 75 at Maridoe Golf Club, opening the door for challengers. Jinichiro Kozuma (68) made things interesting with a late bogey-par finish that created a four-way playoff with Reed, Louis Oosthuizen (68) and Paul Casey (72).

The playoff didn’t last long. Oosthuizen found water off the tee at the par-4 18th, while Casey needed four shots just to reach the green. After Kozuma missed his 25-foot birdie attempt, Reed stepped up and delivered when it mattered most.

“To get my first win here, part of LIV, it means so much to me,” Reed said. “I tried to mess it up. After making birdie on the first, I seemed to leave every putt short.”

The victory carries special significance for Reed, who had gone 0-for-41 in LIV events despite winning last year’s Hong Kong Open on the Asian Tour. Claiming the trophy in his home state of Texas made the breakthrough even sweeter.

Elsewhere in the field, Bryson DeChambeau’s final-hole birdie knocked Jon Rahm out of the top 10 for the first time since joining LIV. That’s a surprising development considering Rahm’s consistent excellence throughout his career.

Sergio Garcia might have been a non-factor in the tournament, but his fifth-place position in the season standings earned him something valuable – the lone spot in The Open Championship reserved for LIV players in the top five not already qualified for Royal Portrush.
