Tim Petrovic fired a 4-under 66 on Friday to grab a share of the second-round lead at the Kaulig Companies Championship. He’s tied with Steven Alker and Ricardo Gonzalez at 5-under 135 at Firestone South in this third PGA Tour Champions major of the year.
Petrovic finished strong with a birdie on the par-4 ninth to reach the 5-under mark. Alker, the New Zealander, matched Petrovic’s 66 to join the leaders. Gonzalez, who shared the first-round lead with Soren Kjeldsen, posted a solid 68 to maintain his position atop the leaderboard.
Miguel Angel Jimenez sits just one shot back after carding a 66. Freddie Jacobson is two strokes behind the leaders at 3 under following his 67.
Angel Cabrera, who’s been dominant in the senior majors this year, posted a 68 to reach 1 under for the tournament. He’s already claimed two major titles in 2023 at the Regions Tradition and the Senior PGA Championship at Congressional.
The stakes are high at Firestone South. The winner earns a coveted spot in next year’s Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass.
Firestone South, which previously hosted the World Series of Golf and later a World Golf Championship, continues to provide a stern test for the senior players. It’s perfect preparation for their next challenge – the U.S. Senior Open in Colorado.
