Not all 60s are created equal.
Caden Fioroni’s 10-under opening round Thursday at the Bromont Open stands out even among that elite company. The recent UNLV grad put on a show during the second event of PGA Tour Americas’ Canadian swing.
Fioroni raced out with eight birdies before his lone stumble – a bogey at Golf Chateau-Bromont’s par-4 seventh hole (his 16th of the day). After a routine par at the par-3 eighth, he found himself in perfect position off the tee at the par-5 ninth.
He needed just one shot from there.
Fioroni’s walk-off albatross – that’s a 2 on a par 5 for those keeping score – completed his 10-under round and vaulted him three shots clear of Patrick Sheehan, Brendan MacDougall and Henry Chung, who had been sharing the lead.
What makes this round particularly impressive is how Fioroni responded after his only bogey. Rather than playing it safe, he finished with the rarest of scoring feats to put significant distance between himself and the field.
