Bernhard Langer Makes History with Sixth PNC Championship Win
Bernhard Langer and son Jason captured the 2024 PNC Championship at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club Orlando, setting a new tournament record in the process.
The victory marks Langer’s sixth title in the event, surpassing Raymond Floyd’s previous record of five wins. It’s the fourth time Bernhard and Jason have won together, with Bernhard’s other two victories coming alongside his son Stefan.
What makes this tournament unique is its family-focused format. The field consists of major championship and Players Championship winners from the PGA Tour, LPGA and PGA Tour Champions, with each competitor teaming up with a family member.
The event has evolved significantly since its 1995 debut as the “Father-Son” tournament. It’s expanded to include various family pairings – parents, daughters, and even grandchildren can now participate. Winners receive the Willie Park Trophy, a red leather belt with sterling silver embellishments that pays homage to the prize awarded at the inaugural 1860 Open Championship.
The Langers’ dominance in this event is remarkable. They’ve now won back-to-back titles in 2023 and 2024, adding to their previous victories in 2014 and 2019. The father-son duo has clearly found a winning formula at the Grande Lakes course.
