Donald Trump has declared that Keegan Bradley “should DEFINITELY” serve as a playing captain at next month’s Ryder Cup. The former president shared his thoughts on Truth Social, where he also announced he’ll attend the matches at Bethpage Black on Friday.
Trump’s post incorrectly credited his invitation to the “PGA Tour,” though it’s actually the PGA of America that runs the Ryder Cup. The PGA of America has confirmed they extended the invitation to the former president.
“Keegan Bradley should DEFINITELY be on the American Ryder Cup Team — As Captain!!! He is an AMAZING guy. It will be a great Ryder Cup. At the invite of the PGA Tour, I will be there on tournament Friday!!! President DJT,” Trump wrote.
Bradley is set to announce his six captain’s picks on Wednesday. He told reporters at the Tour Championship that he’s already made most of his decisions, though Sunday’s outcome at East Lake could still influence his selections. That’s particularly relevant as Bradley sits just three shots off the 54-hole lead at the season finale.
This won’t be Trump’s first appearance at a team golf event. He attended the 2017 Presidents Cup in New Jersey during his first term as president.
Trump’s connection to professional golf is expanding. He’ll likely attend next year’s Miami Championship as well, which the PGA Tour recently announced will be played at Trump National Doral. The South Florida venue had hosted a Tour event since 1962 before the circuit moved the tournament to Mexico in 2017.
