Retief Goosen Claims Fourth PGA Tour Champions Title in South Dakota image

Retief Goosen captured the Sanford International on Sunday, firing a 3-under 67 in the final round to secure a two-stroke victory over Bo Van Pelt. The win marks Goosen’s fourth PGA Tour Champions title.

The 56-year-old South African finished at 13-under 197 at Minnehaha Country Club in Sioux Falls. It’s his first victory since winning The Galleri Classic back in March, adding another trophy to a career that includes two U.S. Open championships (2001 and 2004).

Van Pelt put together a solid final-round 68 but couldn’t close the gap on Goosen’s steady play.

Ernie Els and Darren Clarke shared third place at 8 under. Els struggled Sunday with a 73 while Clarke posted a 68. Charles Schwab Cup points leader Miguel Angel Jimenez finished at 7 under after a final-round 71.

What’s particularly notable is who wasn’t in the field this year. Steve Stricker, who’s dominated this event with wins the previous three years, couldn’t defend his title as he recovers from back surgery. Stricker has actually won four times at Minnehaha since the tournament began in 2018, establishing himself as the king of Sioux Falls.

Stricker is hoping to return to the PGA Tour Champions in December.
