Another big name has dropped out of this week’s American Express tournament, leaving golf fans disappointed.
World No. 2 Xander Schauffele won’t be teeing it up in La Quinta, California. He’s pulled out for medical reasons, though we don’t know the specifics yet.

He’s not the only star missing. World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler already withdrew while dealing with a nagging right-hand injury.
It’s been a rough start to 2024 for Schauffele. He struggled at Kapalua two weeks ago, finishing way back in 36th place. Last Monday, his team got crushed 9-2 in the new TGL golf league.
The tournament’s taking more hits too. Maverick McNealy, Seamus Power, and Denny McCarthy have all backed out. There’s a silver lining for Matthew Riedel though – McNealy’s withdrawal opened up a spot for the Q-School graduate to make the field.
Wyndham Clark, currently ranked 7th in the world, is now the highest-ranked player left in the tournament.
Meanwhile, some other big names are playing overseas. Rory McIlroy (No. 3), Viktor Hovland (No. 8), and Tommy Fleetwood (No. 10) are all competing in Dubai this week at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic.
