Scottie Scheffler has withdrawn from the Houston Open, a move that seemed likely with his wife expecting their second child. The world No. 1 was replaced in the field by Matt Kuchar.
The Houston Open has been something of a near-miss for Scheffler, who’s finished runner-up three times, including the past two years when he used the event as his final Masters tune-up. His streak of 18 consecutive top-10 finishes actually began at this tournament last year before finally ending at the Genesis Invitational (T12) in February.
Scheffler and his wife welcomed their first child, a son named Bennett, on May 8, 2024, just a week before the PGA Championship. That’s where his remarkable 2024 season really took off, as he captured both the PGA Championship and The Open Championship.
The 2025 season has been quieter by his standards. He won The American Express to start the year but hasn’t quite recaptured that dominant form. His last competitive appearance was a T22 finish at The Players Championship.
With the Masters just around the corner, Scheffler’s focus is clearly on family first, then preparing for his return to Augusta National, where he’ll look to add another major to his growing collection.
