Golf’s top player Scottie Scheffler will be sidelined to start 2025 after a Christmas Day kitchen accident left him needing hand surgery.
The world No. 1 was preparing dinner when a broken glass punctured his right palm. Doctors had to remove small glass fragments during the procedure.

“He should be back to 100 percent in three to four weeks,” his agent Blake Smith said Friday. That means Scheffler will miss The Sentry, the season-opening tournament in Maui.
2024 was absolutely huge for Scheffler. He dominated the PGA Tour with seven wins, including a green jacket at The Masters and victories at The Players Championship and Tour Championship. He even grabbed Olympic gold in Paris.
It’s a tough break for the 27-year-old, who’s been practically unstoppable lately.
The Sentry kicks off the new PGA Tour season from January 2-5 at Hawaii’s beautiful Plantation course. But golf fans will have to wait a bit longer to see Scheffler back in action.
He’s now targeting The American Express tournament in La Quinta, California, running January 16-19, for his 2025 debut. That’s the third event of the year, after the Sony Open in Hawaii.
The timing isn’t ideal, but at least it happened during the tour’s brief winter break rather than in the heart of the season.
