Sepp Straka heads to Quail Hollow this week riding high after winning the $20 million Truist Championship at Philadelphia Cricket Club on Sunday. It’s his second title of the season, but he’s making a special detour before diving into PGA Championship week.
His regular caddie, Duane Bock, who missed the Truist with a back injury, gave Straka quite the birthday present: a tee time at Pine Valley Golf Club. Straka will play the top-ranked course in Clementon, New Jersey on Monday morning before flying to Charlotte later in the day.
“That’s going to be a pretty special stretch,” Straka told Dan Rapaport on Monday’s Dan on Golf Show. “I don’t know if I’m going to be able to beat that through my golf career.”
The Pine Valley round might give Straka a competitive advantage, too. With Monday’s washout at Quail Hollow — where nearly 2 inches of rain was expected and fans weren’t allowed on the grounds — he’s likely the only player in the field getting in some actual holes to start the week.
