Shaun Norris pulled off an incredible comeback at the Alfred Dunhill Championship in South Africa, snatching victory by just one stroke on Sunday.

The 42-year-old South African started the day six shots behind the leader but played brilliantly, shooting a 5-under 67 at Leopard Creek Country Club to finish at 13-under.

It wasn’t all smooth sailing. Norris had to overcome a rough double bogey on the seventh hole that could have derailed his chances.

He couldn’t even celebrate right away. The win only became official when Ryan van Velzen bogeyed the final hole, leaving Norris alone at the top.

“I’m very happy that it worked out this way,” Norris said, fighting back tears. “This last year has been very tough. It’s been up-and-down and all over the place. But thanks to God, my family, my wife. We’ve kept it together.”

It’s been quite a run for Norris. This victory comes just two weeks after winning in Japan at the Golf Nippon Series JT Cup.

The win marks his second DP World Tour title – both coming in his home country of South Africa. His first was at the Steyn City Championship in 2022.

Sweden’s Marcus Kinhult, who led going into the final round, ended up in a three-way tie for second place with John Parry and van Velzen.

The tournament was part of a South African swing on the European tour, following last week’s Nedbank Golf Challenge.
