Veteran golfer Stewart Cink is making it look easy at the Charles Schwab Cup Championship, holding onto a three-shot lead after shooting a impressive 5-under 66 on Friday.

But the real story might be the ageless Bernhard Langer.

The 67-year-old German legend fired an incredible 64 – that’s three shots better than his age. It’s the 21st time he’s managed to shoot his age or better on the Champions Tour, which is pretty remarkable.

“Every once in a while I look back at my career and have to almost pinch myself,” Langer said with a smile. “Like today, to shoot 64 – 3 under my age – not a whole lot of people can do that.”

Cink, who’s 51, sits at 12-under for the tournament after opening with a 64 on Thursday. He’s been on a roll since winning his first senior title at the Ally Challenge back in August.

“It was actually probably a cleaner round than yesterday,” Cink said. “I just didn’t have the hot long putts going in today quite as much.”

Langer’s not done yet. He lit up the front nine with five birdies in his first seven holes and finished strong with birdies on 17 and 18. He’s trying to keep an amazing streak alive – winning at least one tournament for 18 straight years.

Alex Cejka sits in third place at 7-under after shooting 66.

The tournament has major implications for the season-long championship. Defending champ Steven Alker shot 68 to get to 4-under, putting himself in position to possibly overtake Ernie Els for the $1 million bonus prize.

Also at 4-under are Vijay Singh (65), Miguel Angel Jimenez (68), Jerry Kelly (70) and Cameron Percy (68).

Els is hanging around at 3-under after a 70, while Stephen Ames, who’s third in the season standings, struggled to a 72 and sits at 2-under.

The tournament at Phoenix Country Club features the top 36 players from this year’s points list. Notably absent is Steve Stricker – he’s never played a Champions Tour postseason event, despite qualifying every time.
