Tiger Woods and his 14-year-old son Charlie put on quite a show Saturday, firing a red-hot 59 to grab a share of the lead at the PNC Championship in Orlando.

It’s Tiger’s first time competing since July, but you wouldn’t know it watching him out there. He and Charlie combined for 13 birdies – including five straight on the back nine – to tie with the Langer and Singh families atop the leaderboard.

“To be able to have these experiences with Charlie is special,” Tiger said. “Usually we’re trash-talking each other, but this week we’re actually on the same team.”

The father-son duo had some extra family support, with Tiger’s daughter Sam carrying their bags around the Ritz Carlton Golf Club.

What’s really impressive? Tiger looked completely healthy despite having his sixth back surgery not too long ago. Whenever Charlie got into trouble, dad was there to save the day with clutch shots.

Charlie, now a high school sophomore, showed off some serious game himself. He drained putts left and right mid-round and bombed some drives that would make his father proud.

“I’m a great cheerleader,” Tiger joked about watching his son play.

The Woods family has played this event every year since 2020 but hasn’t managed to win it yet. While it’s not an official PGA Tour event, Tiger hasn’t won anywhere since late 2019 when he captured his 82nd Tour victory at the Zozo Championship.

Charlie knows what they need to do in Sunday’s final round.

“Just have fun,” the younger Woods said. “I feel like that’s where I’ve struggled; just get too focused on the game. Just have fun and trust it.”

Tiger knows they’ve got work ahead of them with several teams bunched at the top.

“We’re right there,” he said. “There’s a bunch of teams that are up there. We’re going to have to shoot another good round tomorrow.”
