Third Round Canceled at Dunhill Links Due to High Winds, Restart Sunday

Third Round Canceled at Dunhill Links Due to High Winds, Restart Sunday image

Weather is wreaking havoc at the DP World Tour’s Alfred Dunhill Links Championship in Scotland.

High winds forced officials to suspend Saturday’s play across all three Fife courses – the Old Course at St. Andrews, Carnoustie and Kingsbarns. While players managed to complete Friday’s suspended second round Saturday morning, the afternoon session barely got underway before conditions deteriorated dramatically. Some players couldn’t even reach fairways due to the powerful gusts, and after no more than two holes of third-round play, officials scrapped all scores posted and called it a day.

The tournament will attempt a fresh start Sunday morning. The third round will begin again with split-tee starts scheduled between 9 a.m. and 11:23 a.m. local time.

What’s still unclear is whether the tournament can complete all 72 holes as planned. The DPWT hasn’t specified if a fourth round remains possible. If they do manage to squeeze in a final round, a cut will be made and all remaining play will take place exclusively at St. Andrews.

Robert MacIntyre and Richard Sterne currently share the lead at 12 under through two completed rounds.
