Tiger Woods won’t be teeing it up at his own tournament next week, dealing another setback to fans hoping to see the golf legend back in action.

The 15-time major champion broke the news Monday on social media, pulling out of the Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas.

“I am disappointed that I will not be able to compete this year,” Woods wrote on X (formerly Twitter), though he added he’s still looking forward to his role as tournament host.

It’s been a tough year for Woods. He’s been mostly sidelined since having back surgery to fix a nerve problem, and his last tournament appearance ended early with a missed cut at The Open Championship back in July.

The tournament will still feature plenty of star power though. Woods announced the final three spots in the 20-player field will go to Justin Thomas, amateur sensation Nick Dunlap, and Jason Day.

Woods, who’s closing in on 50, managed to play in last year’s event, finishing 18th. But fans might still get to see him in action before the year ends.

There’s a good chance he’ll play in December’s PNC Championship – the special father-son tournament where he teams up with his 14-year-old son Charlie. They’ve played together every year since 2020, and the format allows players to use golf carts, which could make it easier on Tiger’s body.

The father-son duo has become a fan favorite at the event, with young Charlie’s swing looking remarkably similar to his dad’s in his prime.
