Tony Finau has dropped out of this week’s Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas, leaving fans wondering about the sudden change.
The tournament, which features just 20 of golf’s top players, will now include Sepp Straka as a sponsor’s pick instead of Finau. The PGA Tour quietly made the switch in Monday morning’s updated field list.

Why did Finau back out? That’s still a mystery – no official explanation has been given.
It’s been a while since we’ve seen Finau in action. The world’s 26th-ranked player hasn’t competed since the Tour Championship, except for showing up at the Presidents Cup this fall. Last season, he put together a pretty solid run with five top-10 finishes, including an impressive third-place showing at the U.S. Open.
He actually played really well at this same tournament last year, finishing tied for fourth.
The tournament’s still packed with talent, though. Scottie Scheffler, currently the world’s top-ranked player, is back to defend his title. He’ll be joined by rising star Ludvig Åberg (ranked 5th) and U.S. Open champ Wyndham Clark (ranked 6th).
One notable absence: Tournament host Tiger Woods won’t be teeing it up this year at Albany.
