Truist Championship 2025 Field: Rory McIlroy Defends, Scottie Scheffler Skips Signature Event image

Rory McIlroy will defend his title at the Truist Championship, May 8-11 at Philadelphia Cricket Club in Pennsylvania.

The $20 million signature event has undergone changes since McIlroy’s victory last year. It’s not just a new name (formerly the Wells Fargo Championship), but also a temporary venue shift from its traditional home at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte. That’s because Quail Hollow is hosting the PGA Championship the following week.

McIlroy has dominated this tournament over the years, winning it four times at Quail Hollow. This marks his first individual start since completing the career Grand Slam at the Masters last month. He did tee it up two weeks ago alongside Shane Lowry at the Zurich Classic, where the defending champions finished T12 in the Tour’s only team event.

World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler isn’t in the initial field. He’s taking the week off after competing in the CJ Cup Byron Nelson.

The final spots in the field will be determined after the Nelson wraps up. Here’s a look at the initial full field:
