Tyrrell Hatton’s temper got the better of him at Dubai’s World Tour Championship, leading to a broken club, multiple outbursts, and ultimately a fine from the DP World Tour.

The world No. 18 had a day to forget on Saturday, starting with an embarrassing miss from just one foot away on the fourth hole.

It only got worse from there.

The breaking point came at the 14th hole, where Hatton snapped his iron in frustration after pulling his third shot on the par-5. He slammed the club into the ground so hard it broke clean in two.

“It’s time for change, I’m afraid. That’s a terrible influence on the next generation,” said Sky Sports commentator Ewen Murray during the broadcast.

The 33-year-old Englishman’s meltdown included slamming his putter on the green, cursing loudly enough to be picked up by TV microphones, and eventually throwing his ball toward the water hazard on the 18th hole.

Even before Saturday’s drama, Hatton wasn’t shy about his feelings for the Dubai course. “I despise everything about this hole,” he muttered while playing the 18th on Friday.

The course, ironically, was designed by Greg Norman – CEO of LIV Golf, the breakaway series Hatton joined earlier this year.

Despite his on-course antics, Hatton remains in contention. He’s just three shots behind the leaders Rory McIlroy, Rasmus Hojgaard, and Antoine Rozner heading into the final round.

The three-time Ryder Cup player has always worn his emotions on his sleeve, known throughout golf for his running commentary and explosive reactions.

The DP World Tour confirmed Hatton’s behavior violated their code of conduct. They didn’t specify the amount, but confirmed he’ll be receiving a fine.

It’s not the first time Hatton’s temper has made headlines, and given his track record, it probably won’t be the last.
