The 2027 Ryder Cup at Adare Manor might offer fans a unique lodging experience: cruise ships.
Officials are considering docking cruise ships at Foynes Point to accommodate some of the 200,000 spectators expected to attend the prestigious golf event in County Limerick, Ireland. The ships would be about a half-hour away from the course.
According to The Times, a recent tourism board meeting noted that “Docking a cruise ship at Foynes Port remains an option to facilitate staff or spectators for the event.”
Transportation plans are also taking shape. The meeting highlighted “major rail transportation” improvements and the construction of the Adare Bypass road to help manage traffic flow. Thanks to “accelerated construction” approval, the road should be ready in time for the matches.
There’s still work to be done, though. The meeting identified a “potential issue” with park-and-ride sites, as the Limerick city and county council currently lacks the budget to acquire all the necessary locations.
It’s an innovative approach to solving the accommodation challenges that come with hosting one of golf’s biggest events in a relatively rural setting. The cruise ship option could provide a memorable experience for fans while easing pressure on local hotels and rental properties.
