Viktor Hovland might miss the PGA Tour’s first event of 2024 after a painful run-in with his bed frame left him with a broken toe.

The world’s No. 8 golfer broke his right pinky toe last week in what’s probably the most relatable injury a pro athlete has had lately – he smacked it on the edge of his bed while training.

He even poked fun at himself on social media, posting a photo of his injured toe with the caption “Bed frame 1-0 me.”

The timing couldn’t be worse. The Sentry tournament at Kapalua kicks off Thursday, and Hovland’s still hoping he can play through the pain.

Doctors usually say this kind of toe injury needs 4-6 weeks to heal properly. But Hovland’s not giving up just yet.

“He’s planning to tape it up and use painkillers to get through the week,” according to Eurosport. It’s a strategy plenty of weekend warriors can relate to, though most of us aren’t trying to compete against the world’s best golfers while doing it.

The Norwegian star hasn’t officially withdrawn from the tournament, but he’ll need to decide soon if he can manage 72 holes on Kapalua’s hilly terrain.
