The PGA Championship trimmed its field to 74 players heading into the weekend at Quail Hollow Club. After 36 holes in Charlotte, anyone at 1 over par or better made it through to the final rounds.
The cut line at 1 over allowed nearly half the original 156-player field to continue competing for the Wanamaker Trophy. It’s a more generous standard than some other majors, giving players a better chance to make the weekend.
Each major tournament handles its cuts differently. The Masters, with its smaller field to begin with, only keeps the low 50 scores and ties. The U.S. Open allows the top 60 and ties to continue, while The Open Championship matches the PGA’s approach of low 70 and ties.
