Alejandro del Rey captured his first DP World Tour victory at the Ras Al Khaimah Championship, closing with a 6-under 66 to win by four shots. The 25-year-old Spaniard finished at 22-under par, turning his 70th tour start into a breakthrough moment.
Del Rey’s performance was nothing short of dominant. He fired three consecutive 66s to close the tournament, playing the weekend without a single bogey at Al Hamra Golf Club. That’s the kind of golf that transforms careers.
Starting Sunday with a two-shot cushion, del Rey wasted no time extending his lead. He birdied three of his first five holes, then added three straight birdies starting at the 11th to build a commanding six-shot advantage. From there, he cruised home with five straight pars, including a final putt on 18 that triggered a celebratory water shower from his fellow Spanish players.

England’s Marcus Armitage, who led after the first two rounds, finished solo second at 18-under after posting a final-round 68. Spain’s David Puig took third at 15-under with a closing 65.
“I got to a point last year where I just wasn’t having that much fun on the golf course because for me, playing for 20th, 30th place wasn’t that meaningful,” del Rey said. “I just worked really hard since then because I didn’t want to be in that position much longer.”
For del Rey, ranked 308th in the world, this win marks a dramatic turnaround. He hadn’t posted a top-10 finish since last March’s Singapore Classic, where he tied for seventh. But his closing ability was never in doubt – at least in his mind.
“I’ve always felt about myself that I’m a great closer of golf tournaments,” del Rey said. “It just felt great today, felt very natural and very easy.”
The way he controlled the final round, it’s hard to argue with that assessment. His poise down the stretch suggested this might not be his last visit to the winner’s circle.
