The 107th PGA Championship kicks off Thursday under much-improved conditions at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina. After being drenched with about 5 inches of rain over the past 10 days, including heavy downpours this week, players will finally see sunshine.

The forecast calls for temperatures in the mid-80s with winds reaching up to 15 mph — and most importantly, no rain. That’s welcome news for both players and fans after the soggy lead-up to the year’s second major.

PGA officials confirmed Wednesday that players will play the ball as it lies in the fairway — no preferred lies (or “lift, clean and place”) will be in effect. That’s possible thanks to Quail Hollow’s SubAir system, which helps remove moisture from the course. The decision adds an extra layer of challenge, as players won’t get relief from muddy lies despite the recent deluge.
